BLUE COPPER

A Roz Carney Novel - Book 1

When good intentions backfire.

"I have tears welled up in my eyes at the end, which is a sign of a hit for me."

Hunter has been hidden inside the same 1970s house for twenty years. He is twenty-five years old, encyclopedia-educated, endearingly quirky, and woefully lonely. When Roz Carney arrives on a thirty-day caregiving assignment, she believes she knows how to help. She does not yet know what happened before she got there.

The longer Roz stays, the more she senses omissions, distortions, and old damage no one has named plainly. Small details stop feeling small, and what first looks like professional concern begins shifting into something riskier, more personal, and harder to defend from the outside. By the time Roz understands what happened to Hunter before she arrived, helping him is no longer simple — or safe. She has already become part of his story.

Blue Copper is based on the short film with the same name, written and directed by Diane M. Dresback.

READER COMMENTS

Absolutely loved it!  I read it pretty much in one day as I couldn’t put it down!  It kept me constantly curious and wanting to know what happened.  Very suspenseful!  You’re so descriptive with your characters and the environment, so I loved it!

Dresback has a way of drawing you in to the lives and thoughts of these characters and keeps you turning pages to find out what’s motivating them, how they got there, and what’s next. Make sure you have time to read because you’re going to be wondering so much by the time you’re a few pages in. She knows human psychology and it’s a huge part of the story, so be prepared to dive into these characters’ minds.

READ CHAPTER 1

Prologue

Blaring Roz pounded her fist against the steering wheel repeatedly over and over. Anger, hurt, and adrenaline coursed through her body like a high-powered fuel pump. Tears flooded down her cheeks, the salt causing the wounds to burn.

Why?

How had things gone so wrong, so fast?

Everything fell apart. Went horribly awry. It had been too much, just too much.

Roz allowed her head to drop back against the headrest as she cried out with a voice hoarse from screaming, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

But no one could hear her regretful words.

No one.

She was alone.
